Implant over denture / Implant over partial denture
A conventional denture or partial remains one of the preferred choices for fast, affordable tooth replacement. Unfortunately, wearing a traditional design doesn’t always work out for some individuals.
As a Coral Springs prosthodontist, Dr. Renan Buitrago is primarily concerned with the fit and function involved in our patient’s treatments. If a denture does not have enough stability during the day, it can lead to concerns such as:
- Rocking
- Slipping
- Difficulty eating or talking
- Embarrassment
- Sore spots on the gums
- Gum infections
Fortunately, all of these worries can be minimized, simply by anchoring the overdenture to a few strategically placed dental implants!
Overdenture FAQs
Are my dentures still removable? Yes. Overdentures look like conventional dentures but snap onto implants for added stability during the day.
How many dental implants will I need? Depending on your case, you may only need two implants for a lower denture and four for an upper prosthesis.
Can my current denture be retrofitted? It depends. Dr. Buitrago will need to assess your denture to make sure, but this may be possible if your prosthesis is still fairly new.
Will I still need to take my denture out at night? Yes. Wearing a removable denture overnight could contribute to bone loss and gum infections.
